Welcome

Hello and Welcome to my News Weblog!

I’m glad you stopped by to visit! This news weblog will allow me to provide more detailed communication to all the folks in District 125 and other interested web surfers. I hope to be able to use this medium to bring the issues to you, inform you of things going on in the District and discuss how they affect all of us. As Georgia, along with other states, continues to deal with the effects of a very slowly improving economy, we will be faced with decisions that must be made wisely, not only for our own good now but for our children and grandchildren’s future. Signs of recovery are out there but until everyone is able to enjoy that, we must continue to proceed cautiously and with an eye towards making Georgia more competitive, better educated and fiscally stronger. Georgia has fared better than many states because we already were positioned well when the economy began to struggle and that has helped us weather the storm but we are not out of the woods yet.

I have enjoyed serving you this past year in Georgia House of Representatives and listening to the concerns and issues that you deal with every day. This helps me to be more knowledgeable about the issues and to be better informed when I cast a vote on legislation that affects you and I hope to keep hearing from you as we move towards next year. The 2011-2012 legislative session is a unique one because we are also dealing with the redistricting that occurs every ten years. Decisions are being made in cities, counties and across the state to align voting districts to better match up with the newest census data. These decisions are important to you on every level because it determines not only which local elected officials you get to vote for (City Councils, County Commissions) but also who represents you in the State Legislature and the United States Congress. We will be working on these through the summer and into fall to have everything in place when it needs to be.

When we watch the news, we frequently see what is not good out there but let me tell you, there is MUCH to be proud of in Georgia. Our Technical College System is strong and we are graduating more each year as our workforce realigns itself with the high-tech needs of today’s market. Both my husband Paul and I have been actively involved in this system for many years and we couldn’t be prouder of the job our technical colleges are doing and the face they show to the country. Our ports along the Georgia coast are being refitted to allow them to service the largest cargo vessels which allows goods shipped in from all over the world to come in through Georgia. By being able to receive these goods here, costs are reduced and that affects what you pay virtually everywhere you shop. We also continue to have a strong agricultural base in Georgia and our best-known products such as Georgia Peaches and Peanuts, Vidalia Onions and the timber industry find their way all over the southeast and beyond.

I am here to serve you and all the citizens in Bibb, Jasper, Jones, Lamar and Monroe counties. Thank you for allowing me to do that. If you have concerns, questions or if there is something I or my staff can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Working together, we will all help keep Georgia strong and make it stronger for the future.

Sincerely

Susan
